What it's used for: Dandruff
 

How it works: Pyrrithione zinc or zinc pyrithione works by treating a species of yeast known as Malassezia. This yeast is thought to play a role in the formation of dandruff/seborrheic dermatitis by causeing irritation to the scalp

 

 

 

resulting in redness, itch, and scaling.

Effectiveness: Studies have shown pyrithione zinc to improve dandruff up to 67%. In addition, studies have shown that patients with dandruff have altered organization of the skin cells on the scalp, and that the use of pyrithione zinc helps to corrent these abnormalities.
