The Basics: Unwanted hair is a common complaint, particularly in female
patients. There are many techniques for hair removal, but very few allow for permanent results. The presence of excessive hair and menstural irregularities, voice changes, acne, and hair loss on the scalp may indicate an underlying

hormonal disorder and should be evaluated by your doctor.

General advice:
Techniques: all traditional hair removal techniques can achieve success incuding tweezing, shaving, waxing, and electrolysis. Only electrolysis can claim to permanently remove hair, but this may be a time consuming and painful process. Tweezing and waxing hair stimulate the hair into a growth phase causing earlier regrowth. In addition, waxing can cause irritation and a potential follliculitis (infection of the hair follicles). Shaving on the other hand does not stimulate the hair into a growth phase.

Ignore the myths: hair removal techniques DO NOT cause the hair to grow back thicker and darker.

Laser hair removal: this technique has come a long way and is a quick and effective way to remove hair. New technology has allowed this procedure to be performed on all skin types. There are some products that may help to ue after laser hair removal including those from Procyte and Skin Care Technologies

Slow down regrowth: Regardless of your method of hair removal, a prescription cream, Vaniqa, can slow down the regrowth of unwanted hair, allowing more time in between hair removal procedures.

Prescription medications: There are a few prescription medications including birth control pills and spironolactone that may help decrease unwanted hair. If you feel you can benefit from these medications, please contact us for an appointment.
