How it works: Kojic acid is a naturally occuring substance that is know to inhibit tyrosinase, an enzyme that is important in the production of the skin's pigment and color. Through inhibition of tyrosinase, kojic acid can help to

 

 

 

decrease pigment formation helping to treat hyperpigmentation and age spots.

Effectiveness: Kojic acid has been shown to help reduce excess pigmenation in various studies. It is often used in conjuction with glycolic acid or poly hydroxy acids as well as with other skin lightening agents like hydroquinone.
