How it works: Hyaluronic acid is a glycosaminoglycan (GAG) that's main funcution is to help moisturize the skin. Hyaluronic acid has been said to bind over 1000 times its weight in water! By doing so, hyaluronic acid adds

 

 

 

elasticity, smoothness, and firmness to the skin. The levels of hyaluronic acid decline with age and supplementation may help to keep the skin looking young. In addition, hyaluronic acid is thought to help bring acitve ingredients more deeply in to the skin.

Effectiveness: While there have not been many studies relating to hyaluronic acid, it has been used for many years as a key moisturizing ingredient in high end cosmetic lines for years. It is extremely effective as a humectant and moisturizer and is very well tolerated with little irritation. There has also been some indication that hyaluronic acid may act as an antioxidant and that it may help in wound healing.
